Are You Productive?
Most people have no idea how to be productive.
You can see it by the amount of stimulants we consume to get through the day. To finish strong.
Energy. It's a resource to be managed and it's often managed poorly.
Why are some days so taxing and others so easy peasy?
Why do we seem energized after certain days?
It comes down to resistance.
If there's less resistance in your day then you will have energy left over.
If you have a lot of resistance then you are going to use that energy up and be wishing the day was over so you can check out to Netflix.
Most of us are doing an assortment of things throughout the day. Some of those things we have more resistance to than others.
Most of it we are oblivious to.
We have no idea what drains us and what actually gives us energy.
Step 1 in being more productive: Track your energy from task to task. (what we measure we manage)
Doing a lot of things at once? Then you will have no idea what is giving you energy and what is sucking it out from your soul.
Step 1 for most people will be to do 1 thing at a time. If you are not used to it, then making this one change is going to upgrade your productivity x 10 all by itself. For all of you multi-taskers out there, yes some are better than others at this..but nobody is actually great at it.
Back to Step 1. Do 1 thing for an hour (set a timer). Check-in. Are you energized? Drained? Somewhere in between?
Step 2: Delegate or simply don't do the thing that is draining you. This takes time. This will require communication. This will require you to ask for help. If you still have to do these draining tasks schedule them around other activities that recharge or energize you.
That is it! 2 steps. Sure we can talk about all kinds of productivity hacks but until you figure out what activities drain you and energize you there is no point.
This is a process that you will need to continue to refine. However, in time you will face less resistance and get more things done.
That is what I am all about, less resistance more energy.
