Juneteenth
Juneteenth is here!
What exactly does that mean?
Typically this is known as the day when everyone in the United States was declared to be FREE!
Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future.
With all that 2020 has given us today is an opportunity to look at ourselves. To see how can we be better. Everywhere we look we see that there needs to be change, and change is hard. One person cannot change the world. However if every person in the world focused on changing themselves...then the world would change.
Times have been hard recently. Lets use this day to do what it is for! A time for reflecting and rejoicing! A time for self reflection and planning for the future.
Lately in these times we have been doing lots of reacting. Lets stop reacting and lets start planning.
I know it is not easy because we see ourselves everyday. It is difficult to see the tiny 1% improvements from day to day. However, look back to when this all started. Look at where you were then and where you are now. How much have you grown? Where would you like to see yourself in the next 12 weeks?
These are the questions we should be asking ourselves. How will we get there....we don't know. But the desire to be better is there and that is all that matters.
More often than not it is the journey that is what is important, and not the destination. And when we learn this lesson we truly FREE ourselves from the outcome and enjoy the process. When we start enjoying the process the outcomes come quicker and easier, and that is the way life should be.
